Dr. Lina Al Bitar attended the second International conference on horticultural crops held in Cairo from March 15 to 18

Dr. Al Bitar addressed a keynote speech on Mediterranean organic agriculture, the experience of the Mediterranean organic agriculture network.
She also addressed the following conclusive message:

Despite being Egypt the pioneer country to introduce organic agriculture in the Mediterranean Region, the organic sector in Egypt is still lagging behind the neighbouring countries; this is mainly due to the absence of an institutional and a legal frameworks.

The Egyptian organic products being mainly oriented towards the European market, and view of the changing of the European scenario towards conformity rather than
equivalence by 2018, the Egyptian organic products will be excluded from the European market if no urgent concrete actions will be undertaken by the Egyptian government.
