Food for Life will provide support to research organisations involved in the project. By a coordinated researchers and technical staffs exchange programme it will be possible to establish and reinforce a long-term co-operation in the Mediterranean area on specific topics. Each participant institution could benefit through the scientific capacity improvements of their own research and management units. This project is expected to contribute significantly to constructing a new research networks among Italy, France,Spain, Belgium, Greece,Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. Through research mobility flows, activated by Food for Life, it will be encouraging the participation in other FP7 calls to guarantee sustainability to the future network activities.

The Food for Life exchanging scheme is addressed to realize activities on two Working packages:

WP 1: Health

Allowing nutrigenomics, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic for any specific constituent of the Mediterranean diet beginning with micro- and macronutrients that have been already identified to exert favorable effects in term of cardiovascular protection and prevention of obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

WP 2: Food

Create the condition for obtaining detailed tables of food composition for each Country participating in the project to facilitate the acquisition of new knowledge enabling food companies to design and produce healthy food containing the principles of the Mediterranean diet.

The WP 2 will be based on 4 main topics:

  • Biological control of main grapevine and olive tree pests under Mediterranean conditions and specifically;
  • Safety of organic agriculture products;
  • Soil fertility management, compost production, and use in the main crops under Mediterranean conditions. Setting-up of innovative substrate for organic agriculture;
  • Ecosystem functions relate both to productivity and to environmental quality.
